WELCOME SPRING!
In the News … Membership Renewal, Indoor Play, Clinics, and much more!
Membership = Fun + Fitness + Friendship. Renewals start April 15th
All ETPA memberships renew April 15th regardless of when you joined. You will receive an email on April 13th to let you know that the Membership fee for 2024/25 has been posted to your Court Reserve account. When you log into Court Reserve a message will remind you that it’s time to renew. All Members will have until April 20th (5 days) to complete the renewal and pay the membership fee. Don’t delay! After the 20th your membership will expire and, depending on renewals, we plan to open membership up to new players.
By renewing, you’re not just supporting your passion for pickleball, you’re also helping our community. ETPA advocates for the advancement of one of the fastest growing sports in Canada. Our non-profit, volunteer-run association is actively lobbying the City for more places to play for people of all ages and levels of ability in East Toronto.
NEW April 1st Play – No Joking!
Grab your paddle and head to Upper Canada College (UCC) on Monday, April 1st for another chance to play on great tennis courts inside the bubble located in midtown Toronto. Two levels of play are offered, one for Intermediate and one for Advanced. Both sessions run from 3:00 – 5:00 pm and each level of play has a maximum of 10 spots available. Cost is $10 and registration for this event will open up on Court Reserve on March 26th.
NEW Beginner/Advanced Beginner Clinic on April 4th
If you are new to the game or have grasped some of the fundamentals and want to gain more confidence, this clinic is for you! Member Jacquie Harris is a certified pickleball instructor and will guide you through strategies for serving and returning, moving from baseline to the kitchen (non-volley zone) and how to play more effectively with your partner. Cost is $8 and the clinic will run from 7:30 – 9:00 pm at Earl Beatty Community Centre. Registration opens on March 29th on Court Reserve.
Intermediate Clinic – March 23
Advanced Clinic – March 23
Sold Out Clinics at UCC
Over 60 Intermediate and Advanced level Members learned great skills to help elevate their game at our recent clinics. Experienced POWWR coaches POWWR Coaches guided players through drills aimed at fast footwork, dinking with purpose, punching, driving and overhead smashes. Thanks to Advisory Committee Members Carolin Boushel and Catherine Falzone for organizing these important learning events.
Indoor Play Continues
A friendly reminder that we have secured multiple times and days each week for Members to play this Winter/Spring. Log onto Court Reserve, register, grab your paddle and head to the courts for lots of fun, friendship and fitness! Thanks to our fabulous Court Ambassadors, and Advisory Committee Member Joanne Lake who heads up the program, for helping run our indoor sessions.
Operation Dedicated Pickleball Courts UPDATE
We continue to work with City representatives and local Councillors to (fingers crossed!) build dedicated courts and secure a “home” for ETPA. THANK YOU to our 30+ field volunteers who scoured potential locations in November, completed surveys, captured photos and provided venue feedback. The research is invaluable to our lobbying efforts! Thanks to Members Phil Mercurio for compiling the findings and Mark Kindrachuk for providing insight into City processes. Both Phil and Mark assist Mary Beth and Tom in their ongoing discussions and meetings with City reps.

Welcome Simon and Karena – Our NEW Equipment Managers
THANK YOU to Members Simon Houzer and Karena McWhirter who volunteered for this important role. They will be working with President Tom Keane to create and maintain a central equipment inventory list; ensure equipment is in good order and available at our play sessions; provide monthly reports to the Advisory Committee and other important duties. Thanks Tom for performing this role over the past two years!
